Zinn Cycles hosted an amazing bike maintenance clinic, complete with snacks and smiles. Lennard and Nick (and Hank) showed us how to remove and reinstall a tire with rotor brakes, fix a chain that is jumping gears, and adjust the rear derailleur. We got an earful on brakes, squeaky and otherwise, and lots of info about pre-ride checklists and post-ride basic maintenance. Nick also showed us how to fix the brake pad if it gets stuck in the closed position. Bottom line: DO NOT squeeze the brake lever when the wheel is not on the bike!
Lastly, we got all the “dirt” on cleaning our bikes. In addition to washing and degreasing, an easy way to keep your bike and transmission clean is having your chain waxed. It’s a simple process that Zinn can complete in a day for the first waxing and just a couple of hours for future waxings. Waxing the chain means less dirt and grime gets into the chain and gears, and subsequently makes you faster with less resistance from the dirt. And your chain will be quiet, so win/win!
