2025 Basalt Destination Trip

It just keeps getting better!

Thirty Venus sisters — our largest group yet — had a ba-last in Basalt (and that’s no ba-loney)!

We took advantage of windows of good weather during a week that was forecasted to storm every day. Those who arrived early rode the Rio Grande and Crystal Valley Trails through Carbondale, an out-and-back from Redstone to Marble with a stop at Slow Groovin’ BBQ for a “snack,” up to McClure Pass, and on to Ruedi Reservoir.

Afternoon adventures included shopping and soaking in Glenwood Springs.

The predicted rain-out cancelled Friday’s planned rides, but the clouds parted, so we switched gears and went for a jaunt on the Rio Grande Trail to Carbondale and beyond.

While some of us took off for a shopping adventure, others enjoyed Donna’s rejuvenating yoga class (Thank you Donna!).

Later, a group gathered for a tasty tasting tour at Woody Creek Distillery, and then the larger group enjoyed a yummy dinner at Heather’s Savory Pies.

On Saturday, a slew of us rode to Maroon Bells under the beautiful blue Colorado sky.

Some gals added Ashcroft for more climbing, others rolled down Roaring Fork Valley back to the hotel.

A few gals opted for a gentle ride on the Rio Grande Trail to Woody Creek.

There was something for everyone!

In the evening, we took over the hotel courtyard for a Venus community picnic, and we also celebrated a few birthdays! Dinner was followed by a rowdy game night in the hotel lobby.

Sunday’s ride options included Redstone to Marble out and back, the Rio Grande Trail to Aspen, a climby ride to Missouri Heights (There’s a reason why they call it “Misery” Heights!), and a ride on the Glenwood Canyon Trail along the Colorado River. While some gals departed in the afternoon, others stayed to tackle McClure Pass.

What a fantastic weekend celebrating our sisterhood with breathtaking rides, delicious food, and incredible camaraderie!
